Back to my South Dakota road trip example there is SO much to do around Rapid City, South Dakota This was a great city to make our home base We took day trips to Deadwood, Custer State Park, Devil's Tower National Monument, and even spent one rainy day at an indoor water park just outside of town!

🤤 VACATION FOODIE FINDS 🤤
My mom and I stopped in a bakery in Zadar, Croatia We were trying to translate some of the items but the lovely lady behind the counter directed us towards her favorites She introduced us to Börek and, oh my, this was such a great suggestion
It's a families of pastries made from thin flaky dough and rolled up with various fillings You can get savory ones and sweet ones We had one filled with beef and one with spinach Then for the rest of our stops throughout Croatia, we kept finding new varieties to try!

While in Sicily, my mom and I took a tour up to Mount Etna, the most active stratovolcano in the world! We were able to climb part of it to walk around the rim of one of its craters I have never experienced wind like that before At one point, my cross body purse was completely horizontal Such a cool experience

This quick service location has tons of seating, great prices and unique options Oh and a sauce bar! I especially like that you can watch from the line as they make the meats - throwing various types of wood on the fire below the smoker and slicing and chopping up the cuts

I get real sick of gas stations on a road trip It ends up being the place you not only fill up the tank but let everyone out to stretch, get a snack and go to the bathroom But it's not at all fun!
Try to plan pit stops that give you more variety and include something fun - this can be a kitschy roadside attraction, a park where you can have a picnic or a trail head not too far off your path If you haven't planned in advance, have your driving partner get on their phone and find some ideas along the route Often these little stops can be some of the best memories of the trip!
