It so hard to not to contrast the vibrancy of the Milky Way with a subject like this dead tree I was checking out another foreground subject next-door (the graveyard and its resident ghosts) and I just couldn’t stop looking back at this tree by the side of the road Then again, anything will look good under a sky like this Once again in Rural South Aus about an hour half north of Adelaide on a photo shoot about an hour later than the earlier skies erictheviking com

The sombrero galaxy from the constellation Virgo At its centre is a blackhole 1 billion time the mass of our sun, but the dark ring or dust lane around its outer edge is the home of most of the star formation in this galaxy, which for scale is around 105,000 light years across The light from this image has been travelling to us for around 31 million years, around the time Australia and Antartica were splitting apart I am just constantly amazed by what’s in the heaven above us

One of my favourites spots near Sedan, South Australia, I have always wanted to capture this ruin with Orion and Barnards loop above Last weekend was the perfect opportunity with it being almost directly above the ruin on a dark moonless night with clear sky I just love the amazing colours of the hydrogen nebulas that the camera can capture above the almost timeless ruin You have to wonder how many stunning skies it has seen
